Jeanne Choun, Brenda Wittenburg and Mindi Pryce decided last year that the Buffalo Creek community needed to get to know each other better, so they began a block party.

They invited the south part of the community in 2008 to see how things would go and were encouraged enough to expand the invitation to the entire development on Aug. 22 of this year. About a hundred people gathered to share food and gossip, and to cavort with the youngsters in water balloon fights and other activities.

Wellington (Colorado) resident Richard Ross, owner of Dynamic Events in Fort Collins, donated an inflated slide for the kids to use. About a dozen Wellington (Colorado) businesses provided merchandise or service certificates that were raffled off during a potluck. Those businesses included LeBellaCaramella, T-Bar Inn, Subway, The Lube Stop, Sheers, Pizza Palace, Fort Collins Muffler and Automotive, Camacho’s, Taco Johns, Amber Zimmerman Photography, Lia Sophia and Crazy Beautiful.

“We had lots of repeat people from last year,” said Choun. “Everyone seems very positive about the event.”

Choun said that the party, scheduled to end at 7 p.m., was still going at 9. She expressed her appreciation to the Wellington (Colorado) businesses that helped Buffalo Creek residents connect with each other in those last lazy days of August.
