The offices of mayor and three trustees on the town board will be up for election in 2010. Nominating petitions will be available on Monday, Feb. 15, at Wellington (Colorado) Town Hall. The municipal election is set for Tuesday, April 6. Current terms are expiring for Mayor Larry Noel and town trustees Travis Stevens, Travis Vieira and Mike Steely. Noel said he plans to run for a third term as mayor. The board meets twice a month, and board members also serve on various town committees such as the planning commission and community activities commission. To run for a board position, a candidate must have lived in Wellington for at least one year prior to the date of election. Candidates must be 18 or older. If more than three people run for trustee, the top three vote-getters are elected. The mayor earns $100 a month. Town trustee is an unpaid position. Nomination petitions with at least 10 signatures from registered Wellington voters must be returned to town hall by Friday, March 5, for a candidate’s name to be placed on the ballot. |
