Wellington residents wishing to be candidates for the town board of trustees may pick up nominating petitions starting Feb. 16.
Petitions are available at town hall, 3735 Cleveland Ave. Nomination petitions with at least 10 signatures from registered Wellington voters have to be returned by March 5 for a candidate’s name to be placed on the ballot.
The municipal election is set for April 6 at the Leeper Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must go to the polling place because mail-in ballots will not be available for this election.
The last day to register to vote in this municipal election is March 8. Voters may register at the county clerk and recorder’s office in Fort Collins or online at www.larimer.org/elections/register_tab.htm .
Current terms are expiring for Mayor Larry Noel and town trustees Travis Stevens, Travis Vieira and Mike Steely. All positions are four-year terms.
To run for a board position, a candidate must have lived in Wellington for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the date of election. Candidates must be 18 or older. If more than three people run for trustee, the top three vote-getters are elected. The mayor earns $100 a month. Town trustee is an unpaid position.
The town board meets twice a month, and board members also serve on various town committees such as the planning commission and community activities commission.
